North American baking company Weston Foods, a subsidiary of George Weston, has completed the acquisition of Rubschlager Baking of Chicago, Illinois.

Rubschlager, which focuses on a full range of authentic rye breads and a variety of deli-style cocktail breads, distributes its products across the US and Canada.

Commenting on the deal, Weston Foods Frozen division president Kevin McDonough said Rubschlager will bring world-class, authentic rye products and capabilities to complement the company's broad portfolio of bakery products.

"We plan to offer these great rye products to our customers in Canada and the US through our existing sales network," McDonough added.

The deal is in line Weston Foods' strategy to continue to grow and offer quality bakery products to the North American market.
