Walkers Shortbread has partnered with the RSPB, the largest conservation charity in Europe, to support its ‘Give Nature a Home’ campaign.
The campaign aims to create one of the largest expanses of native woodland in Britain, providing vital habitat for many of Scotland’s most threatened and iconic species.
The on-pack promotion, which officially launched at Easter, will see Walkers Shortbread contribute 10 pence from every promotional pack sold, to the RSPB for native forest regeneration at the charity’s Abernethy nature reserve in the heart of Speyside, an area of Scotland which has also been home to Walkers for the past hundred years.
The promotion will appear across two of Walkers Shortbread’s bestselling sku’s – Shortbread Fingers and Christmas Tree Tins, with each participating pack housing an impactful Red Squirrel design, one of the most iconic species of Speyside, that will be helped by the conservation initiative.
Jim Walker said: “Speyside has been the home to our family for over a century and the beautiful natural surroundings and Scottish heritage have always been at the heart of Walkers Shortbread.
“We are absolutely delighted to have the opportunity to work with the RSPB, a charity we have long admired, to help support this long-term initiative to enhance the local area and in doing so help expand the natural habitat for endangered wildlife.”
The partnership will help the RSPB to enrich and expand this area of Caledonian pine forest, a designated Red Squirrel Stronghold and a home to a wealth of rare pinewood wildlife.
Jeremy Roberts, RSPB’s senior site manager at Abernethy, said:
“The pinewoods of Strathspey are enchanting places to visit.
“They are home to a great wealth of wildlife, from inquisitive red squirrels, to beautiful twinflowers, fascinating ospreys, reclusive wildcats and bizarre-looking “tooth fungi”.
“Abernethy is a home to all of these. With this great support from Walkers, the RSPB will establish thousands of trees, making a bigger and better woodland for wildlife, and for visitors to enjoy”.
The partnership will help contribute to the RSPB’s 200-year vision to expand Abernethy’s spectacular forest to its natural altitudinal limit, creating a vast forest for future generations to enjoy.
