American packaging firm Ball has outlined plans to establish a new one-line beverage can manufacturing plant in Myanmar, which is expected to begin production in mid-2015.
The proposed plant is expected to complement the company's existing operations in Southeast Asia.
Ball chairman, president and CEO John Hayes said over the coming years, the demand for beverage containers in Southeast Asia is expected to continue to grow.
"The Myanmar plant will allow us to bolster our presence in this high-potential market with a relatively small investment, making it an ideal fit as part of our Drive for 10 growth strategy," added Hayes.
The capacity of the plant will be contracted to Coca-Cola Pinya Beverages, under long-term agreements. It will also supply other local, regional and multi-national customers.
Ball Asia Pacific president Gihan Atapattu said, "Ball is excited to bring its high-quality packaging and global sustainability practices to the Myanmar market."
