There is bio-pizza inside, and a mixture of paper and plastics on the out-side. The French company LÉA Nature counts on nature and sustainabil-ity in terms of packaging, too. The special feature here is that Wipak has used paper both in the lidding film and in the bottom web. This is a nov-elty in the ready-made pizza segment. The high barrier film just developed by Wipak is based on bio plastics.
Product protection, shelf life, or easy opening – the innovative paper compo-site offers the same properties as flexible plastic packages do. Due to the combination with plastics, the pizza can be packed under MAP conditions and packaging machines can be used without any loss of productivity. The package also opens easily.
Transfering the bio concept to the package
“We wanted to transfer the bio concept to the package”, emphasizes Barthe-lemy Lelore, LÉA Nature Product Manager. “The paper composite expresses naturalness and sustainability. We wanted to be the first company to offer such a solution to its customers. Wipak has managed to transfer our product philosophy to the package”.
