Sydney pie Garlo’s Pies maker Garlo’s Pies has crossed the State border, releasing a special range of “Maroon” pies in the lead up to the State of Origin, to raise money for a rugby league charity.

Garlo’s Pies is a leading baker of chilled and frozen pies, pastry and food service products in Australia and export markets in the United Arab Emirites.

The limited edition Maroon pies will be sold exclusively at the iconic Caxton Hotel in Brisbane one week prior to the first Origin game and throughout the whole series. Garlo’s traditional beef pies will have a special Maroon coloured potato crust over the 7-week period raising money for the Men Of League (MOL) foundation. The MOL supports former rugby players, trainers and volunteers who have suffered an injury.

Garlo’s will donate all the Maroon pies as well as their popular Lean Beef pies to the hotel. For every pie sold, Garlo’s will also be donating $3 and the Caxton Hotel $1.

“Men of League is about helping out our mates and providing support and welfare to anyone in the rugby league community who needs a hand, 365 days a year,” said Steve Calder from MOL Queensland.

“We are calling on the passionate rugby league community to rally behind Garlo and his maroon pies and to join with us to support the mascots, mums and dads, referees, commentators, canteen volunteers, coaches and players,” Mr Calder said. “And what better way is there to raise money than the classic combinations of footy, pies and state pride,” he said.

Former Queensland Origin greats such as Petero Civoniceva and Ben Ikin have joined getting the MOL fundraising project as well, lending their presence to raise awareness and funds.

The Caxton will be carrying the limited offer Maroon pies and traditional lean beef pies through to the final Origin game on the 9th of July 2014 in Brisbane.
