Global dairy company and co-operative Arla has opened its new £150m fresh milk processing facility in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, which can process up to 240,000l of milk per hour and one billion liters annually.
The 70 acre site facility opened by the State for the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Secretary Hon Owen Paterson, will have a capacity to produce 1.5 million bottles a day.
According to Arla, the dairy has already achieved zero waste to landfill and plans to be the first zero carbon facility of its kind using renewable energy opportunities.
Owen Paterson said: "Britain's dairy industry contributes £3.7 billion to our economy and Arla's new facility, the world's largest fresh milk dairy, is powering economic growth by creating 700 regional jobs, including 90 apprenticeships."
Arla Foods UK CEO Peter Lauritzen said the size and scale of the company's new dairy reinforces its leadership within the UK dairy industry.
"Aylesbury has taken advantage of previously untapped technologies and an investment of this scale sends a compelling message to our farmer owners, customers and employees that we have made a long-term commitment to the UK," Lauritzen added.
