Dr. Adel Al-Beltagy was sworn in as the new Egyptian Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, replacing Dr. Ayman Abu Hadid, in the first cabinet under President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. Minister Dr. Al-Beltagy previously served as Director General of the International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA) and Egypt’s Agricultural Research Center.
Minister Dr. Adel El-Beltagy has served as the Chair of the International Drylands Development Commission (IDDC), President of the Governing Board of the International Centre for Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies (CIHEAM), Chair of the Food and Agriculture Research Council at the Egyptian Academy of Science, Board member of the Council of The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS), and Professor of Agriculture, Arid Lands Research Institute, Ain Shams University, Egypt.
He has worked on a wide range of domestic and international agricultural research initiatives, especially on issues related to arid lands.
