Belgian brewing major Anheuser-Busch InBev has acquired a Czech Republic-based brewery Pivovar Samson from Taurus One, in a move to expand its Budweiser brand.
Through the acquisition, the company will have access to beer production in the city of Ceske Budejovice.
Anheuser-Busch is currently involved in a legal dispute with Budejovicky Budvar in Czech over the Budweiser name, which is being used by both the companies.
However, the new acquisition will help the company to strengthen its claim to use Budweiser name.
Pivovar Samson spokeswoman Karen Couck was quoted by The Wall Street Journal as saying, "We're currently evaluating the expansion of the use of Samson's Budweiser brand."
The financial terms of the transaction are not disclosed.
