The Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Development, Fisheries and Food (SAGARPA) has launched a Fisheries Management Plan (PMP) for yellowfin tuna (Thunnus albacares) occurring in national waters of the Pacific Ocean.

The plan hopes to promote the sustainable use of this resource, which generates more than two million economically.

The fishery for yellowfin tuna is one of the most important nationally in terms of catch and income, as it represents an important source of food, direct and indirect employment, trade and economic welfare both regionally and nationally.

The largest fleet and infrastructure of this Mexican fishery is concentrated in the states of Sinaloa, Colima, Chiapas and Baja California.

Operation of this Fisheries Management Plan, published in the Official Journal of the Federation (DOF), contributes to the conservation of the marine ecosystem and improves the quality of life of coastal fishing communities.
