Scientists are trying to make fruits and vegetables even better for your body. Researchers at Kansas State University are boosting the amount of phytochemicals in lettuce and tomatoes.
Phytochemicals are natural chemicals in plants that improve our health. Researchers found stressing the plants with more Ultraviolet light and less fertilizer increased the amount of phytochemicals in the plants.
They hope making fruits and vegetables even healthier will improve our health. As for the taste, that's still being tested. However, the research team doesn't expect much difference.
