Hormel Foods has completed the acquisition of sports nutrition products firm CytoSport Holdings in a $450m deal announced in June.
CytoSport is expected to have sales of approximately $370m in 2014 but the benefits of the acquisition will reflect in fiscal 2015, Hormel said.
Founded in 1998 by private investors the Pickett family and TSG Consumer Partners, CytoSport makes ready-to-drink protein products under the Muscle Milk brand.
Hormel said in a release: "As a leading provider of premium protein products in the sports nutrition category, CytoSport's brands align with the company's focus on protein, while further diversifying the Hormel Foods portfolio.
"The acquisition will serve as a growth catalyst for the company's Specialty Foods segment, and also expands its offerings of portable, immediate, protein-rich foods."
