Agricultural biotechnology company Arcadia Biosciences has teamed with ZoomEssence to create DriZoom GLA Safflower Powder, which is described as a potent functional powder for use in tablet formulas, dry-blended powders and ready-to-drink beverage applications. The powder contains high concentrations of gamma linolenic acid (GLA) derived from Arcadia’s SONOVA® GLA Safflower Oil.
ZoomEssence’s DriZoom production process is said to give the powder unique benefits over other GLA powders on the market.
“Unlike traditional spray drying techniques, our DriZoom technology doesn’t rely on heat, and that results in better flavour,” said Steve Hardek, chief financial officer and director of business development of ZoomEssence. “We don't have evaporation or oxidation issues, so the powders have a longer shelf-life, and the process results in larger particles, which improves solubility and dispersibility.”
“DriZoom GLA Safflower Powder delivers 120 mg GLA per gram with neutral flavour that leaves minimal need for costly flavour masking,” said Eric Rey, president and CEO of Arcadia. “With its high GLA concentration, DriZoom GLA Safflower Powder offers supplement formulators a higher potency, more cost-effective alternative to powders on the market.”
GLA is said to be a nutritionally important omega-6 fatty acid with documented health benefits that are similar and complementary to those of omega-3 fatty acids, helping support the body’s natural anti-inflammatory response and especially useful for managing weight, improving skin health and maintaining hormonal balance for women. When used in combination with the omega-3 fatty acids eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), GLA has been shown to support heart and eye health.
SONOVA GLA Safflower Oil is grown and produced in the United States under strict Identity Preservation (IP) protocols and is currently available in bulk oil, softgels and now in powder form.
