The 2015 Food Logistics Forum, hosted by the American Frozen Food Institute (AFFI), McLean, Va., and held May 31-June 2 at the Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe in Incline Village, Nev., focused on a variety of import and export transportation issues, including labor negotiations at West Coast port terminals, Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) regulations, consumer trends and warehouse efficiency programs.

Featured speaker Peter Friedmann, executive director of the Agriculture Transportation Coalition, Washington, D.C., provided attendees with an overview of how the West Coast ports labor dispute was resolved and what challenges still lie ahead.

Friedmann’s remarks were followed by a series of sessions, including a presentation from Wes Bruke, director of human resources at Alchemy Systems, Austin, Texas, on what the industry can do to attract a new generation of workers while building a productive workforce. Other sessions focused on supply chain industry trends, the future of long-haul shipping options and the state of the trucking industry.

During the forum, Refrigerated & Frozen Foods honored The Schwan Food Co. with the 2015 Sustainable Processor of the Year award, which recognizes companies for their sustainable environmental efforts and social responsibility. Here, Refrigerated & Frozen Foods’ Wayne Wiggins presents Bill Reilly, chief procurement officer of Schwan’s, with the award.
