Biery Cheese Company is voluntarily expanding their recall of specialty cheeses for possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. Deutsch Kase Haus notified them that a specialty Pepper Marble Jack cheese must be recalled. No illnesses have been confirmed to date.
In addition to the Pepper Marble Jack cheese recall, Biery is also recalling GFS Monterey Jack Cheese with Jalapeño Peppers because it was produced on the same line as the affected cheese. Biery is also terminating its relationship with Deutsch Kase Haus.
The GFS Monterey Jack Cheese with Jalapeño Peppers was sold in 1.5 pound packages. The UPC number is 0 93901 77758 4, and the sell by dates are 07/19/17 and 07/20/17. The products were distributed between February 7, 2017 and February 10, 2017. They were distributed to distribution centers located in Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin.
If you purchased these products or any product with the same name and an unreadable date code, do not eat them. Throw them away in sealed packages or take them back to the place of purchase for a refund. Then clean out your refrigerator with a mild bleach solution, since Listeria monocytogenes bacteria can grow at temperatures below 40°F, and freezing doesn’t kill it.
If you ate these products, watch yourself for the symptoms of listeriosis for the next 70 days. That’s how long it can take for the illness to manifest. Symptoms include high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Pregnant women may only be mildly ill with flu-like symptoms, but listeriosis can cause miscarriage and stillbirth. If you do feel ill, see your doctor.
