Core Tip: US-based Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams has again ceased operations at its production facility after finding listeria during routine testing.

The company earlier recalled ice cream products and closed retail shops in April after finding the bacteria in their Columbus, Ohio factory and then resumed production on 13 May.

Jeni's will also shut down its stores temporarily for lack of ice cream stock.

Jeni's is investigating where and how listeria may have re-entered the facility.

However, all the ice cream served since its stores reopened on 22 May were found to be safe and free of listeria, during routine testing before ice cream was shipped.

Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams CEO John Lowe said that the company will resume operations at its plant after completely eradicating the listeria and thoroughly testing the facility.

Consumption of the products contaminated with listeria may cause serious infection and can be deadly for newborns, elderly people and those with weak immune systems.
