A survey shows that German consumers have confidence in the two EU labels, the labels of origin PDO (Protected Designation of Origin) and PGI (Protected geographical indication). The survey was part of a product sampling action of the food sampling platform www.brandnooz.de. Before the test only 34.5 percent of the 250 respondents knew about the labels. After they learned more about the labels 93.5 percent of the respondents find it trustworthy and 56.5 percent stated that they want to include the presence of the label in future purchasing decisions.
The survey is part of the current campaign for the EU label of origin "Excellent taste of European Regions". In Germany the locus lies on the French prunes Pruneaux d'Agen with the PGI label. The brandnooz.de testers gave the prunes top marks in taste and quality.
"Juicier than other dried fruit"
Before the test 99.4 percent of the brandnooz testers didn’t know the French prune specialty. And 93.6 percent judged the taste with good or very good. Particularly praised were the quality, guarantee of origin, taste and the great diversity of recipes. Around 90 percent of testers said that the Pruneaux d'Agen are unlike other prunes. "They are truly delicious and the term dried fruit is not actually true," read one of the many comments on the brandnooz site. "They are really still so juicy. Almost fresh. And very sweet. "
95.2 percent of the testers said that they recommend them to their friends and afterwards more than 260,000 persons talked about the French specialty. And more than 1.5 million clicks on various brandnooz action web pages bear witness to the interest in the product.
Marketing actions in shops and on streets
During various promotions consumers gave the same positive feedback. In five large German train stations approximately 27,000 pedestrians were informed about the guarantees of the products with the two EU quality labels with Pruneaux d'Agen PGI as an example. Many of them asked more information and about suppliers of Pruneaux d'Agen PGI as well as other products with the Protected Geographical Indication labels- a clear show of the interest in the European specialties.
Tastings in stores of retail chains, Rewe, Edeka, Karstadt, Metro, Globus and Galeries Lafayette, convinced the customers of the great taste of Pruneaux d'Agen PGI and the guarantees of the EU's quality label.
This spring, the marketing campaign enters its second year. The successful campaign of referral marketing, sampling campaigns, and tasting days in stores and information and public relations will continue.
