Feral, an Australian brewer, has settled lawsuit with winemaker d’Arenberg related to the label of its Sly Fox ale.
The brewer has agreed to change the label of the Sly Fox ale, after a trademark battle with d'Arenberg.
Two years back, d'Arenberg had filed a legal complaint against Feral, saying that it infringed upon its own Feral Fox Pinot Noir that was registered in 2002.
As per the settlement, the brewer will keep its name, but change the branding, reported Australian Brews News. Feral will now label Feral Sly Fox ale as Sly Fox [by] Feral Brewing, reports Australian Bews News.
Feral's national sales and marketing manager Steve Finney was quoted by the news publication as saying that it was a "good outcome", in that the brewer was able to keep its name, but that it had been "expensive and a waste of everyone's time."
"If the brand wasn't going well, it would have been a whole lot easier just to drop it and rename it something else, but it's actually got brand recognition and credibility over here, so we had to fight it."
