British establishment Cricketer Farm is planning to end cheddar cheese production in Somerset, UK over the next six months, putting close to 70 jobs at risk.
The plans for closure is in response to financial losses in the previous financial year, and lost of a contract with the company's major customer.
Oversupply of milk products, and volatility and uncertainty in the UK dairy market have also forced the company to take the decision.
Cricketer Farm spokesperson said: "Over the past couple of years the Cricketer Farm team have tried to develop more 'added value' opportunities to complement their own label products with the launch of the Cheeky Cow brand and penetrating new sectors such as foodservice and exports.
"However they have been unable to grow these areas quickly enough to ensure a sustainable future.
"Market volatility has forced the UK dairy market into a period of uncertainty and consolidation, which is reshaping the industry to be dominated by international dairy powerhouses, focussed on global strategies."
The company said that it will complete all the contracts and commitments, and expects to cease all the cheese operations in early 2016.
