Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich stated that Russia will no longer produce products using GMOs, in line with the decision made by the government.
"Yes, we need to draw a clear distinction between this decision, which we, in any case, will not be revoking, and the development of science and research, which are used in other fields, including medicine and other industries," - said Dvorkovich having added that it is not an easy topic.
The decree "On state registration of genetically modified organisms intended for release into the environment, as well as products obtained with the use of such organisms or containing such organisms," should come into effect on July 1, 2017.
In late April the State Duma adopted, on first reading, a government bill to ban the cultivation and breeding in Russia of genetically modified plants and animals, reports Prime.
In June, the head of Rospotrebnadzor Anna Popova assured that there are few GMO products on the tables of Russians, from 35,000 studies carried out by its office, only 30 violations were found in this area.
