Raisio has announced its plans to streamline costs and restructure operations of its snack and cereal business in order to achieve the requirements of the current operating environment to meet consumer needs.
In the UK, Raisio will soon enter into a consultation process regarding employees and the activities of its Southall facility, which is situated close to London.
The company stated that in the recent past, consumer behaviour, as well as the demand for breakfast cereals, have changed in the UK, which in turn has led to the decline of the cereal market.
With a dip in sales volume for Raisio's cereals, the company has decided to opt for a restructure. Although the Southall facilty has seens efficiency improvements, profitability levels are restricted due to fixed costs.
Raisio is planning to either relocate or outsource the manufacturing process, which is currently being carried out at Southall.
Raisio's snack and cereal unit vice-president Tomi Järvenpää noted that a lot has been done to improve the profitability of the Southall site, and sales of cereals. "To ensure future success, it is extremely important that we develop our activities so that our product range meets current and future consumer needs, and that we maintain our competitive edge in local and international markets. Raisio's strength is the ability to innovate delicious, healthier and ecological snacks."
