Russian food prices up 10% since start of year, in the EU by 0.3%

In September prices increased by 0.4%, after showing a slight decrease of 0.1% in August and in July, 0.5%, in June the decrease measured 0.8%, in May 0.1%. In April the cost of food products remained almost unchanged after having increased in the first quarter.

The prices of fruit increased most of all in Russia in the January to September period, by 24.8%, whereas in the EU in the same period, they increased by 4.5%. Contrastingly, the price of vegetables in Russia decreased from the beginning of the year by 17.9%, at the same time vegetables in the EU became more expensive by 3.3%.

On the whole, inflation in Russia in 2014 reached 11.4%, which was the highest rate measured since the crisis in 2008. From the beginning of the year the growth in prices has been 10.9%. The effect of the devaluation of the rouble is still being felt, but the peak was measured in March of this year. The rate of growth of prices at that time was almost 17% and still remains extremely high- 10.39% is recorded to the end of the year. The Ministry of Economic Development predicts growth in prices of 12.2%.
