The berry trade in Switzerland is growing at a rapid pace, and the trend has continued into this year.

Between January and August 2015, 233 metric tons of blackberries were sold, that is an increase of 37% compared to last year. The sales of blueberries increased by 33% to 2.298 metric tons and raspberries increased by 30% to 2.539 metric tons. Strawberry sales remained stable with around 14.180 metric tons in August, making them the clear winner of the most popular berry.

High demand has an influence on domestic berry production. During 2004, only 5.775 metric tons of strawberries were produced, and last year 8.275 metric tons of strawberries were produced.

During the same period the production of raspberries in Switzerland increased from 901 to 1.405 metric tons and the production of blueberries increased from 95 to 458 metric tons. And in the period 2004-2014 there was a massive increase in the import of blueberries from 424 to 2.726 metric tons.
