Givaudan initiates establishment of flavours manufacturing facility in Pune, India

Swiss food fragrance and flavours company Givaudan has initiated plans to set up a flavours manufacturing facility in Ranjangaon, Pune in India.

Givaudan is investing CHF 55m ($55.8m) as a part of growth strategy to foray into Indian terrain. The investment marks the company's efforts to recognize India as a key emerging market. This also marks the company's largest investment in the sub-continent since 1998.

The company has completed the groundbreaking ceremony for the new facility, which is slated to open in 2018.

The new facility is expected to complement the company's flavour manufacturing facility in Daman in the state of Gujarat in India.

Around 100 people will be employed at the new Pune facility to boost the capacities of the company's liquids compounding, powder blending, emulsions, process flavours and spray drying in the country. The establishment of an additional facility will help the company provide customers with wider and faster access to its flavour offerings.

On the occasion of groundbreaking ceremony of the new site Givaudan Flavours Commercial Head APAC Monila Kothari said: "Givaudan has a 50 year heritage of operating in India and these are exciting times for us. The doubling of our flavour production capacity is testament to our commitment to India, and will help us continue to meet the dynamic needs of the Indian market for innovative products and great taste experiences."

In July this year, Givaudan also opened a flavors manufacturing facility in China with an investment of CHF50m ($53.1m) to meet eh increasing demand of the country.

Recently the company opened a technical center along with offices in Tokyo, in accordance with the company's commitment to the food and beverage manufacturing sector in Japan. The site will offer the company's full range of technical services, including flavour creation and application, flavour science, sensory science in one location, for the first time in Japan.
