Supplies of avocados in the United States mostly come from Mexico during this time of year, and current Mexican imports have made for a fairly steady market.

“Volumes from Mexico are good, and there are sufficient supplies to provide good volumes,” said Phil Henry of Henry Avocado. Rain disrupted production in some parts of the country in the past few weeks, but overall supplies weren't significantly affected.

“Growers and packers in Mexico are very knowledgeable,” said Henry. “Harvesting sometimes gets interrupted by rain and they can handle it. But we're moving away from the rainy season, so harvests have brought good supplies.” Supplies on 32s through 40s were reported as light this week, and prices for those reflected that. On November 11, prices for a carton of Hass avocados in sizes 32, 36 and 40 were between $23.25 and $25.25.

“There are always fluctuations in price, but, in general, I think the market has been steady,” said Henry. “The California harvest will start a little early this season, but Mexico should still provide the majority of avocados here until very late into spring or even into summer.”
