Traditionally the harvest season in Germany starts in September. And the variety Evelina® is also harvested at all orchards at the start of the autumn. And if the temperatures are low the apples will be stored. Since 2007 the relatively new variety is grown on 210 hectares in Germany. With an estimated harvest of 7,000 metric tons in 2015 the young trees continue to bring in the harvest.

The harvest is divided in three phases to ensure the typical red color of the Evelina®. The apples with the best color are harvested so the other apples have enough space to become redder. The Evelina® apple variety is a cross between the traditional and tasty Pinova apple. The Pinova itself is a successful cross between the Golden Delicious and Clivia apple. The Evelina® apple has a fresh and aromatic flavor, which contains a subtle sweet and yet slightly sour note.

At the end of October the Evelina® harvest will be over in Germany. Strict checks during all phases, from planting to harvest, means that the Evelina® is a quality product and directly suitable for sales in the food retail.

“Thanks to the peel and the strong consistency the crunchiness and the unique taste remains preserved for a long time. As if the apple just came from the tree,” states Evelina® Germany.

In the spring of 2016 more Evelina® trees will be planted throughout Germany to expand the Evelina® club. Then the apple will be cultivated according to modern standards in all the relevant fruit growing regions.
