South Australia’s Pangkarra Foods has launched an innovative pulses snack range for Australian supermarkets.

The range includes a variety of roasted flavoured chickpeas, faba beans and broad beans. Pangkarra Foods says “this is the first time the company have produced paddock to plate pulse products”.

Until now Pangkarra Foods has produced and sold only wholegrain pasta and wholegrain durum flour. Pangkarra Foods is a family owned business based in the Clare Valley in South Australia. It has been operating since 2011.

The new pulses snack range consists of the following options:

  • Roasted chickpeas with garlic and sea salt 200g (RRP AUD$5.95)
  • Roasted bean mix with lemon, thyme, black pepper and sea salt 200g (RRP AUD$5.95)
  • Roasted chickpeas and faba beans with rosemary and sea salt 200g (RRP AUD$5.95)

All of the pulses are Australian grown and the entire range is manufactured and packed in Australia. A very high-ranking 4.5 health star rating (out of the maximum of 5 stars) has been awarded to all of the snacks as part of the Australian Federal Government’s Health Star Rating System.

On top of the snack options Pangkarra is also selling pre-soaked chickpeas which can be used to cook with. These have a recommended retail price of $AUD6.60 for a 400gram. This product has a 4 star health rating.

Pangkarra Foods pulses are available now Australia wide at IGA’s, Foodlands, gourmet food shops and online.
