UK potato market is very quiet at the moment, there is a lot of supply as has been the norm in the last couple of years, according to an East Lothian grower.
"We had a good crop in our area but up north the harvest conditions were very wet. We were very lucky here with good growing and harvest conditions."
He says that there is still lots in the stores and the market is pretty dull, with lots of potatoes available and not much demand.
"Planting will start in March so it is too early to say what will happen but if the market continues as it is there will most certainly be a cut back in volumes, we will know more in May/June when the figures of what has been planted come out," according to the grower.
With Scotland having been continually hit by big storms since the end of last year he is hoping for a bit of dry weather before planting.
The market is affected by the bad weather, "People are not out and about buying chips, it is also warmer than normal and people aren't eating traditional winter food such as mince and potatoes."
The mild weather also causes potatoes to start sprouting in stores so they need to get shifted faster which creates a bit of surplus on the market
