Canada-based ready-to-eat frozen foods manufacturer McCain Foods has issued a recall of 25,215 pounds of bacon fritters over suspected contamination with extraneous plastic materials.

The company's potato, egg, cheese, and bacon fritters were produced on 11 November 2015.

Recalled packages contain "McCain EARLY RISERS Potato, Egg, Cheese & Bacon Fritters", with each of the 1,681 cases bearing a batch code of 1001487402.

The recalled products bear establishment number "EST. 18846", which is present inside the USDA inspection mark. The tainted items were shipped to food service distributors in the US states of Arkansas, Florida, Iowa, Indiana, Illinois, Kansas, Maine, Oklahoma, Ohio, Texas, Tennessee, and Utah.

The suspected contamination was identified after the company received a complaint from consumer, following which it notified the Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) authorities.

However, there have been no illnesses reported due to the consumption of these products. FSIS also claimed that it has not received any complaints of injury or illnesses arising out of the consumption of these products.

The company and the agency have urged consumers who have purchased the recalled products not to use them. They are advised to either discard the products or return them at the store of purchase.

McCain Foods was established in 1957 in Florenceville, New Brunswick, Canada. The business manufactures frozen French fries and potato specialties. It operates across six continents with 41 production facilities.

McCain also produces other foods such as pizza, appetizers, oven meals and vegetables for retail and foodservice industries.
