Chu Shan Trading is a Taiwanese company specialized in the production and supply of fresh fruit in Taiwan, with over 20 types available in the range, and according to the firm’s representative Eric Lin, preparations are already underway for this year’s mango season, which lasts from May to August. "We produce some 9 million kilos per year, mostly in southern Taiwan, where we have the right weather conditions. Of this total, around 300,000 kilos go to the export market, to countries like China (which accounts for roughly 50% of the shipments), Japan (30%) and Singapore and other small countries.”

The firm grows three mango varieties: the Lovely, Golden and Kate, with the former being the most popular among Asian consumers. “The quality and taste of Taiwan-grown mangoes have a well-deserved reputation in excellence by both domestic and overseas consumers. Mangoes are the most popular fruit in midsummer in Taiwan. The surface is colorful and the taste is sweet and juicy, with a good brix level,” he affirms.

A great advantage for Taiwanese mango growers is also the fact that there is little competition between them. Lin explains that this is due to the fact that they all tend to make their sales through different channels. Furthermore, different regions have different seasons and also different varieties, and, in any case, demand is always greater than supply.

Chu Shan Trading, whose name means “goodwill” in Chinese, was founded in 2013 and, over this short period, it has become one of the biggest fruit suppliers in Taiwan. “We have our own farm and supply a wide range of fruits to many destinations worldwide. And faithful to its name, we only sell the best quality fruit with good prices to our clients.”

For the coming months, Lin expects sales to China to increase again, compared to last year, despite the fact that Taiwanese mangoes are not the cheapest. "They have a great reputation, and more and more people in China are willing to pay more for a great quality product, regardless of the price.”
