Producers of the district of Majes, Arequipa, have achieved producing up to 20 tons of Hass avocado per hectare, a number that surpasses the regional average, said Julio Salazar, the national head of the Offsets Program for Competitiveness (Agroideas).

He said this program under the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation (Minagri) was promoting a traditional productive reconversion campaign.

During a ceremony to deliver agricultural machinery and technology, Salazar said that Agroideas had co-financed the execution of three business plans with more than 800,000 soles to enhance the production of Hass avocado. This money has allowed producers to purchase seedlings, fertilizers, get technical assistance, and agricultural machinery.

He also said this investment had helped improve the quality of the Hass avocado and allowed producers to place their product in the European and US markets.

To strengthen agricultural activity in Majes and Vitor, Agroideas has invested more than 3 million suns that have benefited 180 farmers grouped in 8 agricultural organizations.

Through this investment, they have boosted the production chains of Hass avocado, grape, and milk by providing producers with seedlings, agricultural infrastructure, machinery, strategic inputs, fertilizer, and technical advice regarding their business plans.

This has allowed strengthening the productivity and good agricultural and livestock practices in more than 230 hectares.
