TOMRA Sorting Food will showcase its award-winning Nimbus BSI sorting machine at Foodex 2016, the UK's premiere event for the food and drink processing, packaging and logistics industries.

Experts from TOMRA and the company's UK agent, Stein Solutions, will be at stand E261 at the NEC in Birmingham, England, from 18-20 April to discuss the innovative machine.

Last year, the Nimbus BSI free-fall sorting machine was recognised with the Innovation Award at the World Nut and Dried Fruit Congress.

Using TOMRA's biometric signature identification (BSI) technology, the Nimbus BSI free-fall sorting machine accurately detects the biometric characteristics of nuts, dried fruits, potatoes and other commodities.

By combining the efficiency of laser detection with the BSI module, which has been specifically designed to identify the material's unique fingerprint, Nimbus is able to sort based on biological characteristics. These include chlorophyll, mycotoxins, water and oil content.

BSI technology meets the high requirements of the food industry and individual processors for safe and excellent food quality by removing unwanted material.

TOMRA sales director for Europe, Middle East & Africa Steve Raskin said: "Exhibiting at Foodex means we are able to meet existing and potential customers from across the food industry to discover more about their ongoing needs.

"The exhibition also provides us with a great opportunity to showcase the Nimbus's array of capabilities, and explain how it can help improve potential clients' operations.

"The BSI technology makes the Nimbus an ideal pre-sorting machine.

"By using lasers, BSI and extremely precise air ejectors, it delivers an innovative approach to sorting a wide range of nuts, individually quick frozen fruit and vegetables, other fresh, dried or frozen fruit, and an extensive variety of fresh vegetables.

"Due to its unrivalled capabilities, we expect our machine to be very well received at the exhibition."
