Core Tip: Our non-GMO and non-BPA milestones are the direct result of great dedication and major contributions from many people inside Del Monte.
North American food producer and distributor Del Monte Foods is shifting to packaging without liners containing bisphenol A (BPA), as well as reducing the use of genetically modified organism (GMO) in its product lines.

Starting from May and running through October, the company will produce fresh packs, with non-BPA linings, of all Del Monte fruit and tomato products, as well as the majority of its vegetable products.

The company claimed that it has made significant moves in offering non-GMO products, though the fruits, vegetables and tomatoes used in its products have always been non-GMO.

Some of the added ingredients used by the company for sweeteners or flavourings have been obtained from genetically modified crops such as corn or soybeans, it claimed.

This year, the company intends to use all non-GMO ingredients in the entire range of Del Monte vegetables and fruit cups, and most of its tomato products.

This transition will impact a total of 154 products.

The company also stated that its non-GMO products would carry a clear label.

Del Monte Foods CEO Nils Lommerin said: "These actions reflect our ongoing commitment to providing high-quality fruit, vegetables and tomatoes, and meeting evolving consumer preferences.

"Our non-GMO and non-BPA milestones are the direct result of great dedication and major contributions from many people inside Del Monte, as well as our suppliers and other partners."

Last year, Del Monte started verifying and sourcing non-GMO ingredients from suppliers.
