Last year, New Zealand exported a total of 1,266 million tonnes of fruit and vegetables, compared to 1,071 million tonnes in the previous year, reports FAMMU/FAPA based on "Factsheet New Zealand".
Of the said volume, about 944.1 thousand tonnes corresponded to fruit and the remaining 322.5 thousand tonnes to vegetables. The most exported product was kiwifruit, with a total of 516.1 thousand tonnes, followed by apples, with 387.8 thousand tonnes, onions, with more than 183 thousand tonnes, pumpkins, with around 112 thousand tonnes, and avocados, with a little under 20 thousand tonnes.
The most important destination for New Zealand horticultural products was South East Asia, with more than 628.0 thousand tonnes exported, and the EU countries, with a total of more than 426 thousand tonnes. The ranking of largest importers was topped by Japan, with 205.5 thousand tonnes, China, with more than 106.0 thousand tonnes, the Netherlands, with nearly 66 thousand tonnes and the United Kingdom, with a little less than 62 thousand tonnes.
