Chinese tech company Cydiance has launched two in-transit temperature data logging systems, which the company distributes in the US, Europe and on the upcoming market of Mainland China. “We develop temperature monitoring devices, or temperature data loggers as we call them. These devices are used to accurately monitor and track temperature during transport. We have two types of loggers. The first type operates independently during transport and will deliver a report on arrival. The second type is connected to online applications during transportation and is able to generate real-time data,” explains Austin.

“The first temperature logger is widely used for international transport. During transport, the device keeps track of the temperature at regular intervals. These intervals can be tailored to, for example, 30 seconds, one minute, half an hour. At arrival, the device, when connected to a computer, will automatically generate a logbook of the temperatures measured during transport. At the port of destination, the receiver does not need pre-installed software to be able to retrieve the logbook. This is the easiest solution and it works fully automatic. The information can be retrieved without stable internet connection and by people that have little experience operating computers.”

“The second system we have developed is an online system that generates real-time information. This device we developed for the domestic market. The device comes with a PC application that can be used to recieve and analyse the data. We are developing a mobile application.”

Potential in cold chain logistics
“Cold chain logistics is underdeveloped in China. Not every grower or trader puts care in temperature monitoring. That is why solutions like ours are not easy to market. We believe, however, in the potential of this market. The import market is developing. Traders start to get better knowledge of the products and consumers demand higher quality. Companies that work with international companies are stepping up quality control. That is why we focus on larger growers, and on companies that are involved in international trade.”

“We have developed the software ourselves. Currently we are working on a mobile application. We are also updating our computer application. We want to integrate the data needs our clients have. Users have to be able to pull out the raw data out they need, and download it into their own systems. This will enable us to deliver customised solutions.”
