Up to 27th May, the golden pampano stock was about 0.8-1 million jin in Yangjiang, Guangdong, several hundreds of thousands jins less than that of last month, while the number was about 0.8-1 million in Zhanjiang, Guangdong and 0.2 million in Tieshangang, Guangxi.
The pampano stock in Guangdong and Guangxi is still at large at present because of the slow growth and big amount of fry stocking in last winter. But now with the water temperature going up, the pampano starts to grow with a fast speed. Most recently, the fresh and frozen fresh fish price in each port decreased steadily or went through a small drop. The dock trading price of one jin-size frozen fresh fish in Yangjiang, Guangdong was 20 yuan/jin, fresh fish was 21 yuan/jin, generally same as the price of last month. The dock price of the same size fresh fish in Zhanjiang Guangdong was 18 yuan/jin, one yuan/jin less than that of the same period of last month. The dock trading price was about 17.5 yuan/jin, 0.5 yuan/jin less than that of the same period of last month in Tieshangang, Guangxi because of the relatively smaller size of overwintering pampano. The industry insiders stated that at this stage farmers all accelerated their pace to sell fish to make way for the new fry stocking, which caused the increase of market supply and decrease of its price.
As Chinese big sea areas went into summer fishing moratorium consecutively, the natural fish catches decreased while the farmed and frozen aquatic products played the major role in market. The market picked up because of the rising consumption demand and their price jumped a little. It’s told that the wholesale price for 300-400g size frozen fish product now is 255 yuan/box, 400-500g 265 yuan/box, 500-600g 275 yuan/box, 600g above 295 yuan/box, all 5 yuan/box more than that of a while ago, among which there is a big shortage of 600g above size.
The depressing and sluggish price and sales of frozen golden pampano market lasted a long time, from the second half of last year to this Spring Festival, which just warmed up until recently. Although the market period of golden pampano in 2016 is planned to expand and the price is not as good as previous year, traders’ worry of sale difficulty is eased in light of the present positive market price, and the pressure relieved whether for processors or medium and small scale of purchaser and distributors.
In the spring of 2016, the fry stocking rate in all Chinese sea areas was basically up to 80 %. Besides, the stocking quantity for both cage farming and pond farming increased, about 20% more than that of last year. So the outlook for later golden pampano market price trend is that the positive expectation were placed on the big size fish, a high price for fish more than one jin, maybe same as the present price, while there would be unknown fluctuation in line with market conditions.
