“Our company consists of different business activities. We grow and export garlic and ginger, source and export fresh fruits and have a dyhadriation facility where we can produce dried ginger and peppers. Our fresh fruits, which include apple, Ya pear and mandarins, are exported to Asia. The other products are exported worldwide,” explains Danny, Sales Manager at Laiwu Manhing Vegetables Fruits Corporation. Laiwu Manhing Vegetables Fruits Corporation was selected at the official ginger supplier of the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

“We harvest the garlic in June and we can export all year around. Our largest export market is Indonesia, followed by Europe, particularly the Netherlands. To Indonesia we export Normal white garlic harvested in Henan province. There have been no export problems this year regarding the Indonesian market: for garlic the market has remained open all year. Most garlic that is exported to Europe will originate from Shandong and Jiangfu province. Garlic from Henan is generally spicier and sold at lower cost price. Shandong garlic is considered more premium, and mainly exported to markets in Europe, North America and Japan. To Europe we send the Pure White and Normal White varieties. Each year we have the capacity to export 500,000 tons of fresh garlic. Indonesia is a large garlic import country. There is some domestic garlic production, but only a little. Generally, Indonesia imports medium quality Chinese garlic. Our exports to that market are stable.”

“Around the 20th of August most of the garlic will be moved in to cold storage facilities for long-term storage. After this move, prices are expected to increase slightly, but stabilise. This price increase will be caused by the higher storage and service costs that come with the use of cold storage facilities. At the moment, garlic prices are volatile and not stable. The new garlic crop will be planted in November, but at the moment it is too early to comment on this. However, as garlic prices have been high so far, there is reason to assume that next years planting’s will be larger than last year’s plantings.
