Portugal has recorded losses in its potato harvest; therefore, prices can be expected to increase moderately, although this trend could be affected by the entry of foreign potatoes. The most feared enemy for producers is the import of French seasonal potatoes.
Early potatoes come from Egypt, Israel and Morocco. "This will not considerably affect Galician potatoes, because ours are mid-season. The arrival of early potatoes takes a toll especially in Andalusia."
The competition from French potatoes is quite aggressive, because "they come with cheap prices, but lower quality." The consumer must take this into account, because "for just a few cents less, the loss in quality can be considerable."
