The damage caused by bad weather has resulted in a shortage of some products which is still noticeable in the market. This is what has happened with Italian artichokes; not only is there scarcity, but the heads of these vegetables are also smaller than last year at this time.
"The current market situation entails an increase in the production, so prices are starting to fall, despite the growing demand," affirms Andrea Manca, of Agromed Group. Currently, this company exports only 10% of its production to countries such as Switzerland, Austria, Croatia, Cyprus, France and England, selling practically all the artichokes in the domestic market, where the product is very popular.
"The packaging format, consisting of four artichoke heads on a tray, has become very popular in recent years," explains Manca. It is the one used for the products harvested from the first week of October until the first half of May.
