The Federal Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reports that the Ferrara Candy Company has voluntarily issued a recall of 5-ounce packages of Brach’s® Almond Supremes with a “best by” date of 4/22/2017. It is possible that the packages may have been cross-contaminated with Brach’s® Bridge Mix, a product that contains peanuts and wheat.
This poses a serious health risk to those who may be allergic to or have a strong sensitivity to peanuts, which can cause life-threatening anaphylactic shock in susceptible people. Those who are allergic to peanuts and / or wheat are thus advised either to throw away the affected products or to return the package to the place of purchase for a refund or replacement. Opened / empty packages may also be returned for a full refund.
Ferrara Candy became aware of the possible danger after ascertaining that a packaging error resulted after an incorrect roll of packaging film was loaded into one of its machines. The FDA says that over half of the affected packages have already been recovered by the company; of these, 6 were found to have been accidentally mixed with portions of the Brach’s® Bridge Mix containing peanuts and wheat.
The suspect Brach’s® Almond Supreme packages are marked with an item number of 39733, an item UPC code of 11300 39733, and a Code Date of 6G23CC33102. They were distributed to retail stores in the states of Florida, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Ohio, South Carolina, Texas, Washington, and Wisconsin.
No illnesses related to these products have been reported thus far. If you purchased this product and are allergic to peanuts and/or wheat, do not eat it. Throw it away or take it back to the place of purchase for a refund.
