Foods Recalled for Undeclared Peanuts and Sulfites

Core Tip: Two foods have been recalled for undeclared allergens.
 Two foods have been recalled for undeclared allergens. Snack ginger has been recalled for undeclared sulfites, and ice cream is recalled for undeclared peanuts. No allergic reactions have been reported in either recall.

The first recall is for Salt & Straw Chocolate Gooey Brownie Ice Cream Pints for undeclared peanuts. This product is safe to eat unless you have a peanut allergy or sensitivity. The company’s chocolate supplier, Pitch Dark Chocolate, told the company that the chocolate chips used in the brownie may have had cross-contact with a peanut allergen.
 
The recalled product is Salt & Straw Ice Cream Chocolate Gooey Brownie Pints. The plant codes of the recalled product are 41-404 with lot codes 18201, 18203, 18212, 18213, 18214, 18219, 18221, and 18223; and plant code 06-1626F with lot codes 18217, 18219, and 18221.
 
The second recalled product is Best Taste Brand Snack Ginger Sliced by Country Flavor of New York, for undeclared sulfites. the product is sold in a 7 ounce, uncoded flexible plastic package. The recall was started after routine sampling by New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets Food Inspectors and subsequent analysis by Food Laboratory personnel found the additive in the product.
 
The consumption of 10 mg of sulfites per serving can cause severe reactions in some asthmatics. And some sulfite sensitive people can suffer anaphylactic shock, which is life threatening, if they consume 10 mg of sulfites. The Snack Ginger contained 94.8 mg of sulfites per serving.
 
If you purchased either of these products, don’t eat them. Throw them away or take them back to the place of purchase for a full refund.
