The canning industry in Bulgaria increased its turnover from sales last year, with a growth of over 9%. A key driver of this trend is the strong external market for Bulgarian canned vegetables, for which sales have grown by 14%.
In 2015, Bulgaria was one of the top 3 exporters of canned cherries. There was an increase in the production of canned vegetables and fruits, tomato paste, pasta, mayonnaise and mixed seasonings, while reductions were observed for potatoes and frozen vegetables, as revealed by an analysis of the Union of processors of fruits and vegetables.
Tangible growth has been recorded in the export of frozen fruits, canned vegetables and compost, with more and more companies in the country venturing into distant and exotic markets.
The European Union accounts for over 60 percent of the Bulgarian exports, followed by the former Soviet republics.
