The Bakhresa Group of Companies has pledged to set up more fruit processing industries country-wide in Tanzania to add value to the crop and enable farmers to reap more profits.
The pledge was made in Dar es Salaam on October 11th by the Chairman of Bakhresa Group, Mr Said Bakhresa, during a meeting with the Prime Minister, Mr Kassim Majaliwa, in his office.
Mr Bakhresa assured the PM that his company plans to set up a fruit processing industry in the Lake Zone, since farmers there are forced to travel all the way to Dar es Salaam to sell their produce.
Mr Bakhresa added that the company is determined to continue processing food crops in the southern regions.
The company employs over 8,000 people in Tanzania and in other countries where it has investments, noting that about 180 Tanzanians are working in Bakhresa industries outside Tanzania and are being paid as expatriates.
Bakhresa Group boasts of food processing plants in Rwanda, Burundi and Mozambique in addition to Malawi, Zimbabwe and South Africa.
