Drought in Europe may mean that french fries in the U.S., will cost a little more soon. The Netherlands and Belgium are two of the biggest exporters of french fries worldwide. Lack of rain is hitting the crops there hard, including potatoes. The peak growing season is April 1st through September 30. Precipitation was very limited, and temperatures for some months hit all time highs.

Over the last 12 months, the Netherlands recorded many more warmer than average temperatures. The growing season ended on a warm and dry note too, with September being the third hottest and third sunniest month since measurements began.

Meteorologists in Poland and Germany are reporting similar problems with dry soil and lack of rain. They say when the fields are plowed there's a huge cloud of dust behind.
