Turkish Satsuma mandarins from Erzin and Dörtyol districts in Hatay, province in southern Turkey, are on their way to Russia. Growers say they are hopeful for this season following the lift of Russian sanctions on some Turkish produce.
The two districts are Turkey’s important citrus fruit producing areas where two types of mandarins, namely, Satsuma and Okitsu are grown. They currently sell at 30-50 Turkish Cent/kg depending on their quality.
“Last year, a number of growers made a loss as a result of the crisis with Russia as they are a big client for oranges and mandarins. We have now started to export Satsuma mandarins to Russia again whilst the Okitsu variety is mainly sold to domestic markets,” said grower, Hüseyin Aslan.
