Ever since the start of winter, the vegetables of Qingdao have been stable overall. But attentive consumers found out that the garlic price was going up again as the weather gradually turns cold. Indeed, it is the return of the 'garlic frenzy'. In the winter of 2015, a stretch of intensely cold weather caused a lot of garlic to freeze and die in the main production region. This led to a severe reduction of the total garlic volume that ended up in storehouses. The total amount of garlic that is being stored this year in China is about 1.8 million tons, while last year that amount was 2.4 million tons and the year before that 2.7 million tons. The continuing decrease of garlic for storage is also the main reason for the high garlic prices this year.
