Tovano’s date assortment has increased considerably in recent years. “Dates are full of fibres, making them very suitable as a healthy snack. Generally, dates are doing well, and with Ramadan approaching, sales always show an additional boost,” says Richard Strijbis.
“Especially Medjoul dates are popular towards Ramadan, but we also have good Tunisian dates available for customers with slightly smaller budgets. We fortunately have good shipping agents who provide us with high-quality product. Furthermore, we work with prices that allow our customers to make a profit, while they are at the same time capable of handling large volumes,” Richard continues.
“It’s currently not time for the harvest, that’s only in October for the Medjoul dates, so we always ensure we have some stocks left in storage around this time. We mostly sell the small packaging to supermarkets, but the majority of the Medjoul dates are sold to Dutch fresh produce wholesalers and exporters in five-kilogram packaging.”
“There’s currently quite a bit of commotion on the market for nuts and subtropical fruits. There are many products that sell well, resulting in good prices for nuts. In subtropical fruits, especially dates are popular, and pine nuts also do well with just a bit better spring weather. So plenty is happening on the market,” Richard concludes.
