This season is set to be a good production season for carrots in the Czech Republic, shares a Czech exporter.

Although not one of the largest producers of carrots in Europe, the Czech Republic is a medium sized producer, with 23.5 tonnes out of the 5.1 million tonnes produced in the EU-28 in 2015.

"We have seen a boom in carrot production for this season, with new growers and an increase in growing area. This has meant that we now expect around a 10% increase in production volumes for 2017 compared to previous years." said the supplier.

The company reported average demand this year, and along with domestic sales, are exporting to neighbouring countries like Hungary and Bulgaria.

The new season started in May, with the new harvest, and the remaining carrots will be stored until the end of Dec./early Jan. at the very latest.

"We don't keep carrots in storage as long as other countries. Once we run out of our own supply, we import from the Netherlands to keep up our year round supply to our customers."
