The U.S. Food & Drug Administration reports that several grocery stores that issued secondary recalls of produce products last week have either updated or revised their lists of the items subject to recall. These recalls were prompted by the large-scale recall by Salinas, CA-based Mann’s Packing of thousands of pounds of minimally processed vegetables they distributed across the United States and Canada. This original recall was announced after the Canadian Inspection Service revealed it had found a single positive result of Listeria monocytogenes contamination during a random sampling of Mann Packing’s Produce.

Listeria is a very serious variety of food poisoning that is particularly dangerous to pregnant women and their unborn children – it can cause miscarriage, stillbirth, or birth defects. It also poses risks to elderly adults and to people with underlying medical conditions, since it can lead to complications like meningitis, pneumonia, and encephalitis.

There are three significant updates to report. The first, that of Albertsons, Safeway, Vons, and Pak N’Save products, has been revised to correct originally inaccurate product names and UPC codes.

The revised list first recalls the following items: Veggie Ranch Snack Pack, 7 oz. (UPC code: 24191200000), Premium Vegetable Tray, 46 oz. (UPC code: 24210800000), Vegetables Steaming, 29 oz. (UPC code: 24214000000), Round Vegetable Tray, 38 oz. (UPC code: 24222000000), Rectangular Vegetable Tray, 72 oz. (UPC code: 24222100000), Sauté Kit, 20 oz. (UPC code: 24261300000), Sauté Kit with Sauce, 10 oz. (UPC code: 24261400000, Vegetable Medley W/Tomato Chipotle Butter, 12 oz. (UPC code: 24263200000), and Vegetable Tray with Dip Grab n Go, 20 oz. (UPC code: 24282200000). These products were sold at Safeway stores (California, Hawaii, Nevada), Vons stores (Clovis, Fresno, and Oakhurst, California), and Pak N’ Save stores (California). All products were marked with “Sell Thru” dates up to and including 10-24-17.

In addition to these items, the following products have been recalled from the shelves of Albertsons and Safeway stores in Colorado, Nebraska, Northwestern New Mexico, South Dakota, and Wyoming: Cauliflower Chopped, 8 oz. (UPC code: 24105000000), Veggies w/Dip, 8 oz. (UPC code: 24201200000), Premium Vegetable Tray, 2 lb. 14 oz. (UPC code: 24210800000), Vegetables Steaming, 1 lb. 13 oz. (UPC code: 24214000000), Broccoli Carrots Cauliflower with Ranch Dip 330 cal, 9 oz. (UPC code: 24218800000), Broccoli Carrots & Celery w/Ranch Dip 320 cal, 9 oz. (UPC code: 24218900000), Broccoli Carrots Grape Tomatoes & Dip 340 cal, 10 oz. (UPC code: 24219000000), Broccoli Florets, 14 oz. (UPC code: 24221000000), Broccoli Carrots Snap Peas & Dip, 340 cal (UPC code: 24219100000), Carrots / Broccoli / Cauliflower, 14 oz. (UPC code: 24220800000), Broccoli / Cauliflower, 14 oz. (UPC code: 24220900000), Cauliflower, 10 oz. (UPC code: 24222400000), Vegetable Tray w/Dip, 2 lb. 14 oz. (UPC code: 24250100000), and Tomatoes Broccoli Cheese & Ranch Dip 530 cal, 8 oz. (UPC code: 24288700000).

In a separate update, Triple B. Corporation (Anchorage, Alaska), has revised its October 21, 2017 recall statement for certain salad kits and stir fry mixes distributed throughout Alaska because its original list provided flawed label and UPC code information. The corrected list contains the following recalled items, all sold under the “Alaska Carrot” brand and stamped with the “Pack Date” of 10/13/2017 and the “Use By” date of 10/20/2017: Broccoli Crunch Kit (UPC code: 97327 10070 6), Broccoli Floretes (UPC code: 45009 00410 9), Stir Fry Kit (UPC code: 45009 85749 1), Veggie Medley (UPC code: 45009 00332 4), Veggie Pack with Dressing (UPC code: 45009 35124 1), Veggie Platter (UPC code: 97327 07008 5), Veggie Tray w/Cauliflower (UPC code: 45009 00633 2), and Veggie Tray w/Dip, 12” (UPC code: 45009 01155 8).

Finally, Triple B Corporation (Seattle, Washington), has updated its original recall of salad kits and stir fry mixes to extend the recall to the states of Idaho and Montana. The initial recall only encompassed the states of Idaho, Montana, Oregon, and Washington. The list of recalled products remains the same and can be found on the FDA website.
