The Dutch vegetable breeding company is exhibiting at this event for the twelfth time. The main focus is on snack vegetables because this is a trend that is here to stay in both retail and foodservice. Consumers in Asia – just like in the rest of the world – are increasingly choosing vegetables they can eat ‘on the go’, and snack tomatoes are the clear favourite.
Packaging concepts for healthy snacks
Rijk Zwaan is displaying an extensive range of tasty snack vegetables in a wide choice of sizes and colours: red, orange, yellow or pear-shaped snack tomatoes, light-green or bicolour mini cucumbers and mini bell peppers in a variety of colours. The One-bite mini cucumber measures just 5 centimetres in length. The snack vegetable offering also includes robust yet appealing packaging concepts that are ideal for online retail in Asia.
Silky Pink, hydroponics and melons
At Fruit Logistica Asia, the vegetable breeding company is also presenting its very latest additions to its Silky Pink range. This sweet pink tomato – which is extremely popular in Asia – is not only available as a cocktail version, but now also as cherry tomato and beef tomato versions. Other new additions to the Rijk Zwaan assortment are Sweet Palermo sweet pointed peppers in various colours. Furthermore, Rijk Zwaan is revealing a number of innovations in its lettuce range, including new varieties that are suitable for hydroponics and plant factories. Visitors to the Rijk Zwaan stand can handle and taste many of the products for themselves, such as the sweet Golden Emerald melons with a short production cycle and extensive disease resistances.
Sparring partner
During the event, the vegetable breeding company is looking forward to meeting Asian chain partners to discuss ways of further developing the fresh produce category, as is currently being done through the Rijk Zwaan Retail Center in Berlin. The company shares findings from its taste tests and consumer research with growers, vegetable processors and retailers, and plays an active role in category management, positioning, promotion and packaging design.
