This was reported by the Ambassador of Ukraine to the United Kingdom, Natalia Galibarenko, answering the question of "European Truth" within the framework of the MFA Press Club.
According to the diplomat, Ukraine offered London the preparation of a major trade agreement from the very beginning.
"We do not want to just take the current Association Agreement, cut it, throw out the sectoral parts, and name what's left our new deal. We want an entirely new agreement. At first there was no such understanding, but now the British are ready. They agree that there will not be a 'small deal', that it is necessary to prepare a new document," she said.
According to the ambassador, the new agreement should open up mutual access to the markets of Great Britain and Ukraine at a higher level than stipulated in the current Association Agreement with the EU.
Natalia Galibrenko said that the British side aims to have the text of the new agreement ready by the middle of next year, but Ukraine expects that the talks to be lengthy. "I doubt that we will complete everything in six months. It is worth recalling that we negotiated with the EU for 4 years."
Kiev and London agreed that during the negotiations on a new agreement on trade with Britain, the rules of the current Association Agreement with the EU will apply. In the near future, the parties must agree on a document that will fix this rule.
